      Methodology

      How the index works

      Smoothing

The index is the average of hourly readings over the last 7 days, so a launch shows up as a climb over a week, not a jump. Until there are 7 days of history it averages what it has. The 24h column is how much that average moved today.

The Singularity clock (just for fun)

A gauge, not a forecast: seconds to midnight = (100 − average index of the top three labs) × 12.

      Index v2 · 22 October 2026

News attention no longer counts toward the index, the headline number became a 7-day average, and model launches are counted once per day. The ranking changed with it.

      Sources

Google News (Bing News as a fallback), Hacker News and OpenRouter, scanned every 5 minutes. Capability and capital come from public leaderboards (Artificial Analysis, LMArena), funding rounds and market caps, with every source listed in each lab’s dossier. Last reviewed recently.
